We need your help!

We are looking for Hunter's gray jacket.  It has his name in it. Please return it if your child accidentally took it home.  Please put your child's name in their jackets.  I have an extra gray jacket and a black/navy polo jacket that no one is claiming.  If they are your child's, please let me know.  Otherwise, I will be adding them to the GFAA lost and found pile.

This is a reminder about our dress code at GFAAstudents cannot wear numbers or letters on their shirts.  Please make sure your child is following dress code.

Check for notes and sign your child's folder daily.  Take out old papers and keep them at home.  Buy a new red folder if your child's is falling apart.

Lunch reminder:  Please deposit lunch money in the morning into your child's account.  This cannot be done at lunch time.  If your child needs help depositing money, make sure he/she tells Miss Carroll when they are dropped off in the cafeteria in the morning. Remember that lunch money can also be added online. Make sure you have your child's lunch number on the check and designate that check for lunch money.  We are finding checks on the floor and loose in folders. Sometimes the students have no idea that they have money or what the check is for in their folder.  Please help us to be able to help you!

Thanks for your support!

Week 20 Short week

It's a short week this time, so we did not start a new letter.  We have been reading fairy tales this week and practicing retelling the story.  We worked on figuring out the setting of a story and illustrating a setting.  We are writing in journals now.  Please work at home on illustrating with at least five details in the setting and drawing ourselves with heads, bodies, arms, and legs.

We went to Library this week and several students did not get to check a book out.  Please make sure that your child has their book in their backpack so they are not left out.  They cannot get a new book until they bring back their old one.

In math, we worked on Ordinal numbers. We sequenced the story of the Old Lady who swallowed a fly by the order that she swallowed the animals.  In science, we started learning about light and shadows.  We will continue this next week too.

I started testing students on the Pre-K Winter CPAA test.  I am excited to see how they have progressed.  The Pre-K CPAA test is getting a little harder each time.  We will take the last test at the end of the year to make sure that we are ready for Kindergarten. Please help your child to practice their last name for the end of the year test.

We still need a few students to replace their red folders that are falling apart.  The plastic red folders seem to hold up better.  Also, please return your child's report card ASAP.  Don't forget to sign the back and return the envelope too.

Picture Updates from Dec./Jan.

Picture Updates
Here are some pictures that I forgot to put on the blog.  This was PJ day and Kindergarten's Polar Express parade down the hall.

Everyone looks cute in their PJ's!

I think we are still sleepy!

Waiting for the parade to start is hard work!

Here comes the Polar Express train!  Wow, they did a great job!

                                                      Math time!

We are playing a fishing game and measuring our fish to see whose fish is long and whose is short.

Sorry, forgot to rotate this before I uploaded it. Tilt your head please.

These fish were almost the same size!  We had to measure carefully!

Come by and see our walls.  We studied Penguins!  We made a penguin craft and wrote a fact that we learned about penguins.

More measuring!  We made snowman names and measured to see whose name was the shortest and longest!  They turned out cute!

Week 18 and updates

This week, we have been talking about the weather changes and the season- Winter. We read two cute winter books  (The Mitten and The Hat).  We learned how to identify the characters, and retell the stories in sequence.  We role played the stories and compared & contrasted the stories using a double bubble map. In Math, we practiced recognizing the numbers 0-20 by playing number bingo.  We made number flashcards 0-10  and worked on comparing lengths and heights.  We also ordered straws from shortest to tallest. We learned the letter Ii, the two sounds it makes since it is a vowel, and how to write the letter Ii. Ask your child to tell you something they learned this week.

Next week is the end of the 2nd 9weeks and I will be retesting each child for report cards.  I will send report cards home on Jan. 23rd.  Please look over them, sign the back under the 2nd 9 weeks and return the card in the envelope ASAP. If you didn't get a chance to conference with me the 1st 9wks.,  please email me to set one up.

Next week is also Literacy Night on Jan. 17th.  Please join us that night if you can.  Jan. 18th is College day.  Have your child wear his/her college shirt to school.

We have a holiday for MLK day on Jan. 21st.  The next day, Jan. 22nd is a Staff Development day for me.  Mrs. Carroll and an aide will be at school on the 22nd while I am at a planning session. The rest of the school will not have classes, but Pre-K will be open.  The cafeteria will be closed that day since it is just us and the daycare.  Please make sure that your child has a lunch box and drink that day.

Week 17

Welcome back!  I hope you all had a very relaxing break.  This week will be short, but full of learning.  Report cards will go out in a couple of weeks. We will review the letters/sounds that we have learned so far.  We are starting journal writing several days a week.  In math, we will be graphing, ordering numbers, and reviewing number recognition & 1 to 1 correspondence. In science, we will learn about penguins. We will make a penguin craft and learn about their habitat, characteristics, and life cycle.  In social studies, we will review our social contract and commitments to the class.

Please make sure that your child has a jacket daily.  Also, several students need new red folders.  They are falling apart and hard to hold notes and papers on Friday.  Please save the new behavior sheets inside if you change the folder.  Thanks for your help!
